The most representative grape variety grown in this area, is the Groppello. It is considered a rare red grape variety which is cultivated only in Valtènesi-Garda Classico in the beautiful hills west of Lake Garda.
This grape is the basis for all red wines and rosés, including of course the eponymous Groppello and Chiaretto, the pearl of this wine region.
This denomination with 33,000 hectares of vineyards embraces the whole morainic amphitheater of Lake Garda, Verona, Mantua and Brescia. The main grapes are Garganega, Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio among the white grape and Corvina, Merlot and Cabernet among the black grapes. In August 2017 has been launched on the market the new Garda spumante (sparkling wine) in its white and rosé version.
The main grape varieties in the Bardolino area are the Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara grape, which give pleasant, fresh, light and delicately scented wines. These wines are to be drunk young to get the best of their typical delicious and fruity fragrance.
